PSB Synchrony Series Bookshelf Speaker, 6.5" Woofer, 1" tweeter, 150W power handling, Bi-Wireable/Bi-Ampable
Speaker Design: The PSB Synchrony B600 Premium Bookshelf Speaker is a two-way bass-reflex design, featuring an all-new driver platform, new crossover and enclosure designs, and built-in IsoAcoustics isolators.
Bass Reflex Cabinet: The B600’s rigid MDF enclosure has extensive internal bracing to minimize resonances that can cause uneven response and blur transients. The front baffle is clad in a 5mm-thick solid aluminum plate, which suppresses “baffle talk” that can obscure fine detail.
The aluminum plate on the baffle has threaded pins on the rear that grab six small isolation cups, three on each side, which suspend the aluminum plate between the two sidewalls of the enclosure. The aluminum plate has contact with the cabinet only around its perimeter. The isolation cups decouple the aluminum plate from the enclosure, another measure that helps preserve fine detail.
Dual Binding Posts: Two pairs of five-way insulated binding posts allow for bi-wiring or bi-amping. Jumpers are supplied to allow conventional wiring to a single amplifier.
Isolation Feet: On the bottom of the enclosure are four isolation feet, custom designed for PSB by IsoAcoustics. Based on IsoAcoustics’ award-winning Gaia II isolators, the B600’s isolation feet adhere to the supporting surface. The isolators prevent energy from the drivers and cabinet from being reflected back into the enclosure, and also prevent structure-borne vibrations from reaching the listener. Benefits include improved micro-detail, clearer transients, a wider soundstage, and more precise imaging.
Finishes and Options: The Synchrony B600 is available in two gorgeous furniture-grade finishes: Satin Walnut veneer and High Gloss Black. Other design touches enhance the B600’s visual appeal, including a tasteful Synchrony logo on the top edge of the front baffle, where it meets the top surface of the enclosure.
Included with the B600s are two narrow-profile black grilles that complement the enclosures. Thanks to their super-slim cross-sections, the grilles have minimal effect on the B600’s sound. Magnets embedded in both the grille and enclosure assure a quick, secure fit.
Canada is almost as far away from New Zealand as you can get, but it seems we are close on more than just stunning scenery and a large neighbour.
We also appear to share similar tastes in a great sounding loudspeakers. For over 30-years Canadian speakers have been popular addition to New Zealand homes. The Canadian sound differs from USA and UK markets, with their scientific approach being woven into the DNA of their products for the last 4 decades.
Perhaps inspired by nature, science or both, PSB are among the most awarded and reviewed Canadian loudspeaker companies.
THE “NATURAL AND OPEN” CANADIAN SOUND: INSPIRED BY NATURE
In 1974, Paul met Dr. Floyd Toole, a world renowned psychoacoustician at the NRC, who conducted numerous studies to understand how sounds were interpreted by the human sense of hearing at both the psychological and physiological levels. To Paul, who had devoted much of his childhood to become an accomplished violinist, it was a “Eureka” moment. He had long puzzled over how to consistently reproduce on a set of speakers the unique timbres of different violins exactly as they would sound to him when he played them.
What Paul immediately recognized upon listening to Dr. Toole describe his research was that his findings gave him the formula he needed to design speakers that to the human sense of hearing, would be perceived as organic sounding.
In Dr. Toole, Paul found a lifelong friend and peer who would influence him and whom he influenced, all in the pursuit of a way to reproduce sounds that listeners would perceive as equivalent to that which was real, alive, and natural.
