PSB Imagine XC Centre Speaker
2-Way Center-Channel Loudspeaker: The PSB Imagine XC is an attractive compact two-way centre-channel loudspeaker featuring a 1" titanium dome tweeter flanked by two 5.25" injection-moulded, clay/ceramic reinforced polypropylene woofers.
Bass Reflex Cabinet: The PSB XC centre-channel loudspeaker's critically tuned cabinet employs a rear-facing port for high sensitivity and extended bass response. A black ash wood-grain finish complements the slim cabinet to integrate seamlessly with almost any decor. A detachable cloth grille is also included.
NRC (Nation Research Council): Through many years of research at the National Research Council (NRC) in Canada, home to one of the world's most advanced acoustical laboratories, PSB's design team has learned not only what people love to hear, but also how they hear it in a room. Critical to the Imagine X series design is this research into human perception of sound using double-blind listening tests. Double-blind testing removes any listener bias to give us the most accurate test result. It allows PSB to understand what is most important to listeners and allows us to create the ideal blend of performance and price for every application. In 1974, PSB was the first company to use the NRC for loudspeaker development and remains the most active user of the facility today. PSB's experience with the NRC, how they interpret the data and implement it into the design of the Imagine X series speakers, gives PSB a real advantage in speaker design.
Mounting Options: The PSB XC centre-channel loudspeaker comes with four self-adhesive rubber feet to protect your AV furniture, stand, or shelf. The rubber feet add 5mm to the height of the speaker.
Applications: All PSB's Imagine X series speakers are carefully matched in timbre, giving you flexibility to combine any of the models to work together in many different rooms and system setups. The PSB Imagine XC can be used as a centre-channel speaker in a 5.1 or 7.1 channel home theatre system.
Canada is almost as far away from New Zealand as you can get, but it seems we are close on more than just stunning scenery and a large neighbour.
We also appear to share similar tastes in a great sounding loudspeakers. For over 30-years Canadian speakers have been popular addition to New Zealand homes. The Canadian sound differs from USA and UK markets, with their scientific approach being woven into the DNA of their products for the last 4 decades.
Perhaps inspired by nature, science or both, PSB are among the most awarded and reviewed Canadian loudspeaker companies.
THE “NATURAL AND OPEN” CANADIAN SOUND: INSPIRED BY NATURE
In 1974, Paul met Dr. Floyd Toole, a world renowned psychoacoustician at the NRC, who conducted numerous studies to understand how sounds were interpreted by the human sense of hearing at both the psychological and physiological levels. To Paul, who had devoted much of his childhood to become an accomplished violinist, it was a “Eureka” moment. He had long puzzled over how to consistently reproduce on a set of speakers the unique timbres of different violins exactly as they would sound to him when he played them.
What Paul immediately recognised upon listening to Dr. Toole describe his research was that his findings gave him the formula he needed to design speakers that to the human sense of hearing, would be perceived as organic sounding.
In Dr. Toole, Paul found a lifelong friend and peer who would influence him and whom he influenced, all in the pursuit of a way to reproduce sounds that listeners would perceive as equivalent to that which was real, alive, and natural.
